Advanced Placement

July 23, 2019

Dear Parents and Students:

This letter is to notify you of the changes that College Board has made to Advanced Placement (AP). Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, the AP Program is introducing new resources and processes designed to help students earn college credit and placement.

Here is what you need to know:

· Students will be asked to register for AP exams in the fall. However, AP exams will continue to be given in May

· The exam fee is not changing. However, there will be a $40.00 fee for late registration (after November 15) and a $40.00 cancelation or unused exam fee, if the student wishes to cancel or does not take the exam on the test date

· Santiago High School will collect fees beginning on August 21, 2019. The AP teachers will provide students with specific instructions and walk them through the process at that time

· Students will get personalized feedback through new digital tools that provide daily support for every AP classroom. Their teachers will be able to track their performance throughout the year using monthly personal progress checks

To get ready for the coming school year, please encourage your student to sign up for a College Board account. All College Board programs are connected through one account, so if your student created one for the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, or College Board Opportunity Scholarship, they are all set. They will just need to have their username and password available.

More information will be sent to you as we near the start of the school year; however, you can learn more about the College Board changes at parents.collegeboard.org .

Enjoy the summer break.

Sincerely,

Dr. Smith

Assistant Principal
