CORONA – 3-18-2019 – Edison International made a surprise announcement to Santiago High School (SHS) senior, Nnaemeka Anyanwu, this morning. Nnaemeka has been awarded a $40,000 scholarship. The Edison Scholars Program supports students with big dreams to power the future and achieve their academic goals through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Each year, Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, awards $1.2 million in scholarships to 30 high school seniors.
Over the past four years Nnaemeka has been thoroughly dedicated to academics and his community. Academically, he has taken various honors and AP courses and has maintained a cumulative 4.69 GPA over all four years. Nnaemeka serves as the Santiago High ASB President. He has worked with administration, teachers, and fellow students to create a dynamic school year. Along with his academic rigor and school spirit, he is thoroughly involved in the community. Over the past two years, Nnaemeka has worked to raise funds towards educational materials and technical tools for students in Nigeria through the Knowledge and Education Nigerian Development Union (KENDU). Throughout his four years at Santiago, he has always been active in his academics, school involvement, and community service.
“I have had the privilege of being Meka’s counselor for the past four years at Santiago High School,” said Catherine Wallace, SHS Counselor. “He is driven and a well-respected young man. I am so proud of him. He is very deserving of this Edison Scholarship.”
